Applied Window Films

high performance films for glass

Anti shatter and bomb blast glass fragment retention film was fitted by Applied Window Films to the Mailbox Centre in Birmingham.

In the event of impact, safety glass protects against injury and damage by holding the razor-sharp glass shards securely in place.

Bomb blast film provides protection to personnel and property by substantially reducing the release of flying glass shards following an explosion.

Safety Window Film,
Security Window Film
& Bomb Blast Protection Film

Safety window film, security window film and bomb blast protection film (also known as glass fragment retention film) combat three major problems associated with glazed areas, and all at a fraction of the cost of reglazing:

Safety Film - Serious injury caused by human impact with glass in critical locations
Security Film - Theft and damage caused by burglary or vandalism
Bomb Blast Protection Film – Death or serious injury caused by glass shards propelled by a bomb blast or an industrial explosion.

Safety films, security films and bomb blast protection films can often be combined with the properties of solar control window film and privacy film to create a multi-purpose film to meet your specific requirements.

All glass fragment retention films feature a hard, scratch resistant surface to ensure durability, and have up to a 10 year warranty.

Safety Film

Safety Films are tested according to BS EN 12600/ BS6206 Class B (100 microns) and approved for upgrading existing glazing to comply with legal requirements against human impact:

Document N of the UK Building Regulations 1991 BS 6262 Part 4 (Code of Practice).
Workplace Health & Safety and Welfare Approved Code of Practice L24 (1992) Regulation 14.

These regulations apply to carefully defined ‘critical locations’ in offices, retail stores, government buildings, and any other work places where employees or the general public may come into contact with glazed areas. Their focus is health and safety and they are designed to prevent serious injury to children and adults through accidental collision with glazing.

Applied Window Films can upgrade your existing glass in situ with the minimum of disruption by quickly and cleanly installing safety film. As the alternative name for this film implies, ‘glass fragment retention film’ protects against injury in the event of human impact by holding the broken shards of glass securely in place.

Security Film

Security Films are also tested to BS 6206 Impact Test A (175> microns) and protect against the theft and damage caused by burglary or vandalism.

In almost half of all recorded break-ins by burglars or vandals, access is gained to the property through glass – a window, door panel, glass door, etc – especially at the rear of premises, out of sight of any passing traffic.

Correctly installed security film will hold the broken glass in place and deter access by all but the most determined burglars or vandals.

Bomb Blast Protection Film

Bomb Blast protection film (also known as anti spalling film or anti shatter film) provides protection to people and property resulting from the impact of flying glass shards following a bomb blast or other explosion.

90% of all injuries are caused, not by the explosion itself, but by the glass shards from surrounding windows and doors that are blown out by the shock wave. Professionally installed bomb blast protection film vastly reduces the incidence of these injuries by holding the broken glass in place.
